HIS Guide to Early Year Field Sports Preparation
As the days start to feel longer and a bit of sun has appeared in the Highlands, there’s a noticeable shift both outdoors and in-store at HIS. Spring marks the start of a busy season across the board, with customers restocking on everything
from garden supplies to their clothes. One area that really comes to life at this time of year is fieldsport.
It’s a department that naturally follows the seasons as expected. Quieter through the colder off-season months, but once things kick off, they don’t slow down anytime soon. Whether you're planning your first trip of the year or getting
back into the process, now is the time to get prepared.
Fishing Season Is Not Far Away
For those who enjoy getting out on (or into!) the water, April is when things really start to get underway. This year, our full range of Fishing Gear is landing in-store ready for the new season, giving you a wide variety of options when
restocking your gear.
Getting stocked up early while it’s fresh has a key advantage to those unprepared. Rather than waiting until you need something and risking delays, you can make sure you’ve got everything sorted well in advance. Whether it’s a rod, reel or
a basic accessory - having your setup ready means you can focus on getting those trips planned rather than delaying.
You can explore the full range in-store by visiting our field sports section upstairs above clothing, or browse online via our fieldsport department.
Be Ready for Midges…
It wouldn’t be spring in the Highlands without having to mention… *midges*. As temperatures rise, so do they. Especially in environment for field sport like around water and woodland. Anyone who’s ever spent time outdoors locally
will know just how important it is to be prepared, and how irritating they are WITH preparation – let alone without.
Planning ahead makes all the difference and is genuinely so important. Simple additions like midge repellent, nets, and suitable clothing can turn a frustrating experience into an less-frustrating… sorry - enjoyable one. It’s one of
those things that’s easy to overlook until it becomes a big problem and you are miles away from home, so it’s well worth factoring in.
Clothing That Works Outdoors
Field sports preparation isn’t just about the equipment you buy and use – it’s also about what you wear as that plays a part in how enjoyable, and comfortable the day is. Upstairs in-store, you’ll find a wide range of outdoor clothing
designed to handle whatever conditions may appear on your trip.
Layering is key at this time of year, especially when in vast woodland and high up. Mornings can still be cold, while afternoons bring milder temperatures, so having adaptable clothing helps you stay comfortable throughout the day
without freezing, or overheating. Look for durable, weather-resistant options that can handle everything from light rain to uneven terrain. It’s smart to also include layers that can be removed, and stored easily in case it does get hot.
Getting Prepared Early Pays Off
The early part of the year is the ideal time to check your gear, replace anything worn, and make sure you’re ready to go. Before you visit us in-store, or have a look online – make sure to check over what you already have to see if anything
needs replaced or upgraded.
Leaving it until the last minute often leads to problems – whether that’s limited stock, delays, or simply not having the right setup and no time to get the essential. Then it’s a cancelled trip or an unenjoyable one. By being organised now,
you’ll have access to the full range and the time to go whenever as opposed to a last minute rush.
At HIS, we aim to make that process straightforward. With everything available in one place, you can get sorted quickly and if you get stuck – why not ask one our fieldsport experts Nigel and Frank on your next visit?
